Описание

King Olaf of Norway is one of the most revered Christian saints in Scandinavia, and in addition, this is the last common saint of the Western and Eastern Churches. He was the baptist and enlightener of his people and died in the battle of July 29, 1030. Now this date is celebrated as St. Olav's Day.

According to the canon, he is depicted on the icons in the crown, and in his right hand holds a battle ax or ax, which was wounded in his last battle. On the one hand, it is a weapon of the northern warrior, on the other - a symbol of martyrdom. As Olaf fell in battle, copies of the poleax with which he was killed began to appear in various temples - for example, in the church of St. Olaf in the Swedish province of Skane. It was believed that if you apply it three times to the body, a person will be cured of all ailments.

Images of Olaf with an ax are widespread in Northern Europe, as well as in England on the frescoes of cathedrals and in church sculptures. The ax of St. Olaf adorns the coat of arms of Norway.

Materials: metal, genuine leather.
